Above & Beyond deliver cryptically beautiful music video for new single

Above & Beyond‘s latest single, “Northern Soul,” brings together the emotional vocals of Richard Bedford with powerful, pop-infused trance sounds to create a haunting ballad of a great American city. The single marks tribute to the city of Detroit and its gallant tribute to music. Above & Beyond’s Tony McGuinness tells of their connection to the city.

“We’ve had ties to Detroit since before we met. Along with the world’s best chrome wheels the city gave us all such sweet soul music, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, Stevie Wonder and the rest of the legendary Tamla Motown alumni, The Parliaments, Patti Smith, The White Stripes and Eminem – the list is endless. And let’s not forget techno, without whom etc. So we’re all hugely indebted to Detroit. We tried a lot of singers, many of them great in their own way, but you have to hand it to Richard Bedford – his performance is fabulous and real and human – above all he makes it believable.”

The video for the release itself paints a story of a grey-scale city composed of dots that mold together to create different formations of houses and landscape that mimic the landscape of the Motor City. As the video progresses, bright colors begin to take the place of the once grey dots, in unison with lyrics depicting the strong resilience and grit that Detroit represents.

Common Ground is set to release in early 2018 in conjunction with a nationwide tour.
