Justin Martin – Ghettos & Gardens Remixes Vol. 2

One volume of remixes for Justin Martin‘s Ghettos & Gardens obviously was not enough. The original album, the first full length effort from dirtybird frontman, was released back in May while the first (and incredibly solid) set of remixes came to light in early October. This time around, Martin rounded up friends and family alike to deliver a collection of remixes both diverse and rapturous. In debating which of these tracks to highlight, I found it literally impossible to play favorites.

Are you a drum and bass fan? Leroy Peppers (Christian Martin) and Shadow Child have fantastic reworks of “Don’t Go” and “Riding Spaceships” for you, respectively. Thought you couldn’t like “Ruff Stuff” any more than you already did? Eats Everything chops Martin’s vocals, turns up the subs, and adds in massive drums. Martin’s brother-from-another-mother Claude VonStroke dirties up the title track to fit it somewhere between a deep house anthem and true melodic bass. Tanner Ross totally flips the switch on Danny Daze‘s remix of “The Gurner” from Vol. 1 and transforms it from sexy deep electro house to a funky pop with a vintage twinge. Of course we can’t forget “Booty clap” extraordinaire Kill Frenzy and his brilliant bassy take on one of Justin Martin’s most beautiful songs, “Butterflies.”
