Sankeys Manchester to close, Sankeys Ibiza summer residencies heating up

Last week, much to the chagrin of many UK dance music fans, the reputable Sankeys in Manchester announced it would be closing its doors that have been warmly welcoming clubbers for the last seven years. As recently as 2010, Sankeys was named one of DJ Mag‘s top UK clubs and has consistently been a go-to for superstar DJs visiting the Queen’s country for almost a decade (and beyond, as the former Sankeys Soap).

For those of you looking for a silver lining, however, you may have just found it. Club owner David Vincent is really embracing the “when a door closes, a window opens” mentality with regards to his plans for Sankeys Ibiza. Because in the last few years, Sankeys Ibiza has been so successful, he’s charging full steam ahead on plans for this summer on the Balearic isle. In a statement on the club’s Facebook page he says:

I have decided to close Sankeys in Manchester indefinitely this summer as I focus my attention on our third year in Ibiza. I want our Ibiza project to be the best club in the world, just like what we have achieved previously in Manchester, as I get the feeling this could be our summer. But I need my production and staff from Manchester to come to Ibiza with me to achieve this goal and therefore both clubs cannot be open at the same time. Who knows when we will be back in Manchester, or if we ever will be back, or what comes next in this great city I love. I want this current chapter of the club’s history to end with a spectacular party, so we are rounding off the May bank holiday with a huge line-up. It’s a 12-hour marathon set from 1 PM to 1 AM on Monday [May] 6th, with a stellar cast of names and the Sankeys Manchester residents, in the spirit of our epic 12-hour Tenaglia sessions.

And focusing on the Balearic residencies he is — Sankeys Ibiza will have a fantastic lineup of residencies for every day of the week this summer, including Hypercolour, Diynamic Neon Nights, dirtybird, Flying Circus, and Viva Warriors.
