Since their inauguration via Size Records, Swedish young bloods Wayne & Woods have made significant headway with sparing yet striking club cuts across the board. Now, enroute to Cr2 Record’s 10^th anniversary celebrations, the duo returns to follow-up powerful label debut “Favela” with an inaugural nod to the New Year in the form of “Ghetto Funk.” This time around, the duo bounces through scratchy sample work and full-bodied big room apexes to the utmost effect, drawing a line under the tedious hallmarks more commonly attributed to the genre of late to show yet another edge to their expanding studio repertoire. The track pinpoints where creative stamina and nostalgic composition can blissfully collide, leaving this latest solo outing to paint the picture of a duo that we may have significantly underestimated on the approach to 2014. If this is to be taken as their medium for the year ahead, Wayne & Woods are unlikely to stray shy of the spotlight any time soon.
