Craig Williams is clearly a hard worker. The Los Angeles-based techno artist has done anything but rest on his laurels following his highly regarded contribution to Green Velvet’s latest album, giving away his free 10,000 Faces remix EP and releasing an excellent EP on Club Sweat this week.
Saw Throat’s title track is a multifaceted production that sounds just as likely to be dropped by Claude VonStroke as Brodinski, featuring a deep throaty bassline that is straightforward in approach and infectious in appeal. Keeping the guttural bass trend going on “MTC 100,” Williams’ displays the analog wizardry that caught Mr. Velvet’s ear in layering resonant toms and timely synth swells to splendid effect. Williams is an artist in full stride right now, successfully exploring his sonic niche in the intersection of throwback analog elements and new-school techno arrangements.
For up-and-coming producers who lack access to the gear he loves, Williams has also made the EP’s stems and sample packs available to anyone who buys the EP on Beatport. Check out instructions on his YouTube channel.
