Major Lazer’s Jillionaire launches Feel Up Records

He’s an dancehall hero, one-third of Mad Decent‘s Major Lazer, and now the head honcho of his own record label. Jillionaire has teamed up with production partner Richie Beretta to launch their own Brooklyn-based record imprint called Feel Up Records. The newly established label’s mission is to help in the discovery and support of independent talents that reflect Jillionaire’s distinct, Caribbean-bred sound. Known for bringing the airy, rhythmic nature of dance hall to the electronic spectrum, Jillionaire’s new production house will shape a budding brand of music as releases begin to surface.

In a concise yet genuine note from the jet-setting DJ superstar posted on the label’s website, Jilly allows the reader to pick up on the slightest undertone of excitement, with a warm introduction to his personal project. Between working on a rap career, being a crucial element in Major Lazer’s crowd-commanding collective energy, and having a solo career as a DJ, it is a wonder that the man otherwise known as Trini Chris has the time to head up Feel Up. Sounds like a page out of Diplo‘s playbook.

The website features a few productions so far: Work by multi-instrumental artist and electronic producer Teleseen, along with a bombastic, tribal rework of Beyonce’s “Drunk In Love” by the label’s co-founders, as well as a handful of other releases have begun to surface. Though Feel Up Records has yet to fully make its mark, with forthcoming productions you can be sure they will quickly establish themselves as a production imprint known for a fresh, breezy blend of warm sonic vibes.
