Katy Perry – This Is How We Do (Brillz Remix)
Katy Perry’s SoundCloud isn’t a page most dance music fans frequent, but those that indulge in the occasional perusal suddenly have justification: the “Part of Me” star has officially posted a remix from Brillz. The twonktastic OWSLA/Mad Decent signee took on the pop sensation’s “This Is How We Do” for the endeavor, a move perhaps inspired by the twerking ice cream cone in the origianl’s music video. Whatever the rationale, Brillz’s version cuts just about every lyric but the chorus, and manipulates even that to be only pop in the lock and drop sense. Slowed down, grimed up, and bossy all over, the beat-driven remix could easily be confused for an original by those who prefer tastemaking to Top 40.
