DJs for Climate Action to throw inaugural live event at SXSW

Since launching in 2008, DJs for Climate Action has helped touring artists like A-Trak, Anna Lunoe, Grandtheft, and Gigamesh reduce the impact of their air travel by raising money for year-end carbon offset drives. In less than a decade, DJ4CA has raised tens of thousands of dollars and offset more than two million pounds of carbon dioxide.

In addition to DJs, the group hopes to get music fans involved by throwing the first DJs for Climate Action live event this Thursday, March 19th, at Austin’s SXSW music festival. According to DJ4CA founder Sammy Bananas, “The idea is to have a party with great DJs and music, but with an identity based around a cause rather than a record label or a specific subgenre. In the process, we hope to foster a positive association with environmental responsibility and help fans engage with the otherwise tough issue of Climate Change.” Soul Clap, Michna, Sammy Bananas, Smalltown DJs, and Mike 2600 — all of whom have contributed to previous year-end offset drives — will perform.

Give A Beat and Cadence & Cause are co-sponsoring the event. The former uses dance music to empower opportunities for foster children, at-risk youth, and communities impacted by incarceration, and the latter helps artists sell music digitally to raise money for a wide variety of issues.
