7 Diplo tracks you need to hear before he drops his new album with Gucci Mane

Gucci Mane recently announced that he’s working on an EDM album with Diplo. Instantly, Diplo confirmed the album but insisted it won’t be EDM. So then what will the project between these two sound like? Trace back Diplo’s production catalog, through his hip-hop gems and genre fusions, and find out what they hype could be all about.

1. Wale - The One Eyed Kitten Song (ft. Travis Porter)

Off Wale’s 2012 Folarin mixtape comes “The One Eyed Kitten Song.” Produced by Diplo, the throwback rap track comes laced with a verse from frequent collaborator Travis Porter.

2. Gucci Mane - Excuse Me (Diplo Remix)

It’s been almost five years, but steady admirers of Mad Decent can’t forget the label’s Gucci Mane mixtape. Diplo presents: Free Gucci — AKA the Best Of The Cold War mixtape — was a complete Gucci remix album featuring productions from Flying Lotus to Brodinski, and of course a few takes from Diplo himself.

3. Kreayshawn - Twerkin!!! (ft. Diplo & Sissy Nobby)

Kreayshawn’s debut album assaulted the genre norms of 2012, with the female rapper touching upon raw hip-hop and dabbling in electronic production. Something Bout Kreay came in full with a feature credit from Diplo on “Twerkin!!!” — a track he also produced.

4. Azealia Banks - F*ck Up The Fun

Before Azealia Banks became one of hip-hop’s most notorious loud mouths, and before she dropped her impressive debut album Broke With Expensive Taste, Banks had been on the ground racking up street cred through a series of mixtapes. It was her 2012 mixtape Fantasea that set the bar for her career, and Diplo manned the project’s standout track “F*ck Up The Fun.”

5. Diplo - Biggie Bounce (ft. Angger Dimas & Travis Porter)

Diplo produced “Wobble” for Travis Porter in 2012 — but the collaboration didn’t pick up enough traction to hit mainstream audiences. Soon after, Diplo released his Revolution EP, and “Biggie Bounce” surfaced as a revamped “Wobble” with Travis Porter and additional work from Angger Dimas.

6. Jack Ü - Febreze (ft. 2 Chainz)

Skrillex and Diplo present Jack Ü has been a cultural phenomenon since dropping earlier this year. If you’re looking for Diplo’s modern hip-hop crosshairs, look no further than the duo’s “Febreze” featuring 2 Chainz.

7. Gucci Mane - Dangers Not A Stranger (Diplo Remix)

Another one off Mad Decent’s Free Gucci mixtape, Diplo himself remixes the rapper’s “Dangers Not A Stranger.” What does it sound like when Diplo and Gucci Mane meet? The answer is right here.
