Watch This: Gesaffelstein teams up with French composer Jean-Michel Jarre

The name Gesaffelstein conjures images of black suits, cigarettes, and ominous French techno. “His music is quite dark, quite mystic,” Jean-Michel Jarre says, musing about the producer in the new video detailing their collaboration “Conquistador.” Jarre, a fellow Frenchman, is one of the more important figures in electronic music in the last thirty years, not to mention an accomplished composer, producer, and performer.

Recently, Jarre enlisted the help of Gesaffelstein to create “Conquistador,” a haunting electronica piece with distorted 808s, choral voices, and a slew of cinematic sequences. There’s elements of both producers’ work inherent in the collaboration, from Jarre’s classic synth lines to Gesaffelstein’s more modern processing techniques. The track is the first single from Jarre’s forthcoming album, and is available on Beatport now.
