Chicago arts space readies homage to the records of Frankie Knuckles

It’s been more than one year since the untimely passing of Chicago house legend Frankie Knuckles, but the industry and adoring fans alike are yet to forget his legacy. With dotted memories and tributes paid by the likes of President Obama and BBC in the wake of his death, the city of Chicago is preparing to immortalize a key element of that magical aura: his records.

As part of a wider celebration of African and American culture and history led by Chicago artist Theaster Gates, Stony Island Arts Bank will play host to a vinyl collection of Frankie’s works starting October 3. Though details of the extent of the collection have not been specified, the space will host a vast physical collection of the records that immortalized Francis Nicholls as the genre pioneer who took house music from the minority to the masses on a global scale.
