Berghain bouncer Sven Marquardt to host art exhibition in Australia
On the exterior, Berghain head bouncer Sven Marquardt appears as an individual not to be provoked. Having taken charge since the famed Berlin club opened its doors in 2004, he occupies his weekends as gatekeeper of the storied parties that begin on Saturday nights and end on Monday mornings. During the week, however, Marquardt is a polished photographer who has published three art books and a memoir, Die Nacht ist Leben. He wakes up bright and early — around 7:30am each morning — to get a head start on one of the passions that drives him the most.
Next year, Sven plans to host two exhibitions in Melbourne and Sydney; his work will manifest the ‘Urban Subcultures’ theme that takes a deep dive into ‘the challenges subculture faces in urban areas.’ Curated by Germany’s own Goethe-Institut, the program’s full schedule can be found here.
Sven Marquardt will showcase his art on the following dates:
Thursday 28 April – 31 May 2016 – Substation, Melbourne
Thursday 5 May – 31 May 2016 – Ambush Gallery, Sydney
