Jack Ü recruit Armand Van Helden, Oliver and more for ‘To Ü’ remix EP

Skrillex and Diplo have created a monster, as their once inside joke-turned-super group side project Jack Ü has risen to be one of the most distinguished acts in dance music. Behind a joint record, Skrillex and Diplo reignited Justin Bieber‘s career and managed to clock a platinum record along with it, shaping fizzy bass and snappy 909 snares into their own infectious sound. Although “To Ü” failed to receive the same commercial acclaim as “Where Are Ü Now,” Jack Ü’s collaboration with AlunaGeorge may be the pair’s best work thus far. Rounding together Skrillex’s often overlooked affinity for drum programming and reaffirming Diplo’s golden track record with pop vocalists, it seemed the track was virtually untouchable, until now.

The Mad Decent and OWSLA head honchos enlisted remixes from Clean Bandit, Oliver, George, and not one, but two reworks by Armand Van Helden, offering up contrasting perspectives to Jack Ü’s hit. Clean Bandit provide a groovy bass line house effort while Oliver deliver on their familiar cosmic disco. George, presumably Aluna’s male counterpart, delves into strange, wiry experimental grooves while house legend Armand Van Helden presents his rave-ready takes from the “deep” and “hype” ends of the spectrum, respectively.

While revisiting “To Ü” may not have turned out another showpiece like the original, a handful of inventive remixes will hold us over until Jack Ü’s next big contribution.
