ATTLAS – So Long (ATTLAS Edit) [Free Download]

We named ATTLAS as one of our 25 artists to watch in 2016, and he reaffirmed the high expectations with a surprise end-of-year release on top of a prolific year. “So Long” mashes three of ATTLAS’ favorite tracks- Joris Voorn and Kid A’s “So Long,” Matt Karmil’s “Moment,” and Adrian Lux‘s “Teenage Crime.”

Mashups aiming for inventiveness can easily miss their mark and cross the thin line that separates creative and contrived combinations. ATTLAS avoids the pitfall by narrowing his attention to a specific component of each track. Joris Voorn’s ethereal melody, Kid A’s gorgeously wistful vocal spliced with Linnéa Martinsson’s instantly-recognizable vocal hook from “Teenage Crime,” and Matt Karmil’s measured bassline are all separately discernible, but not overpowering. The result is technically tight and emotionally stirring, a combination that ATTLAS has made his signature this year, and is sure to continue exploring in 2016.
