For fans of techno’s most sinister ranks, a new Pilo release is always cause for celebration. As a primary protégé of Boys Noize, Cameron Ward may be America’s best representation of Boysnoize Records’ unique brand of industrial, cerebral techno. Pilo earned a spot in our own “Artists to Watch” list for 2016, and hasn’t wasted any time proving that he deserves such acknowledgment.
For his first release of the new year, Pilo has joined forces with Ateph Elidja, a burgeoning Parisian producer with a similarly dark disposition. For “Deadekent,” the pair fuse formidable rhythms, ominous tones, and dissonant instrumentation to create a track that inspires fear as much as it does movement. Dark as “Deadekent” may be, its release poises a bright trajectory for both producers in the coming year.
