Daft Punk released ‘Discovery’ 15 years ago

15 years ago, Daft Punk changed the game. At the turn of the millennium, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter officially dawned their helmets, ushering in a new era of their career with the release of their sophomore album Discovery. Boasting 14 tracks in total, the LP was an evolution from their debut project Homework, showcasing a more polished, rock-centric sound while retaining their storied disco and house influences.

The album brought to life many of the duo’s most iconic songs to date like “Harder Better Faster Strong,” “Aerodynamic,” and “One More Time” — the latter of which would go on to become an international club sensation. The influence of Discovery has carried on through pop culture with unrelenting charm. Kanye West famously sampled “Harder Better Faster Stronger” on “Stronger,” while the album even became the soundtrack to Japanese anime film Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem in collaboration with director Kazuhisa Takenouchi.

Today, we celebrate the anniversary of the momentous release.
