Songs From Scratch is the ongoing musical project that bridges the gap between electronic and hip-hop talent for original productions. The series, produced by website Yours Truly and adidas Originals, has previously featured work from artists such as Mr. Carmack, Baauer, and Snakehips, with HWLS joining the roster for a collaboration with Ty Dolla $ign.
Ta-ku and Kit Pop make up HWLS, and together, they produce an earnest beat for the rapper, who recently worked on “Real Friends” with Kanye West. “Plays” coasts with a slow-burning melody and stripped-down vocals that ebb and flow as percussion builds.
