Aphex Twin shares first music video in 17 years, directed by a 12 year old

In advance of his new EP Cheetah, which will arrive July 8 via Warp, Aphex Twin has shared a music video “CIRKLON3 [ Колхозная mix ].” The track is slated to appear on the forthcoming release and its visual accompaniment is the first official Aphex music video in 17 years. Ironically, the clip’s director–12 year old Ryan Wyer of Dublin, Ireland–wasn’t even alive at the time.

The video consists of mostly cell phone footage of Wyer, his friends and family. As the glitchy, acid-house tinged track meanders into sludgier territory, the videos get more twitchy, distorted, and strange. Wyer and his friends don Aphex apparel and masks through the video which ends with a promising “To Be Continued.” slide. Aphex, a father of two himself, reportedly discovered Wyer through his YouTube channel and approached him to make the video.
