Aphex Twin teases new ‘Cheetah’ EP

A new EP from Aphex Twin is on the horizon. Various record stores in the UK have received print advertisements for the release, titled Cheetah. The advertisements read “New Product Information,” and contain a long description of the EP, treating it as if it were a new digital instrument.

“The Aphex Twin Cheetah EP uses digital sound generation techniques combined with wave sequencing technology to bring you sounds with movement and depth rarely found on records today.”

The flyer further contains both Aphex Twin and Warp Records’ logos, as well as instructions on how to handle the new work: “To assure you that your Cheetah EP will give you many years of enjoyment, please be sure to read the owner’s manual carefully before attempting to operate the Cheetah EP.”

The new EP follows Aphex Twin’s Syro, which ended the producer’s 13-year silence and won him a Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album. In the time since, Richard James has also released the perplexing concept EP, Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments pt2.
