The M Machine – When It’s Gone (Mat Zo Remix) [Free Download]

Ever since going on tour together with Porter Robinson, it’s been apparent to fans of both parties that Mat Zo and The M Machine hold a high mutual respect for one another. First, this manifested The M Machine’s remix of one of the top tracks Mat Zo’s debut album Damage Control, “Lucid Dreams.” Two and a half years later, it’s happened again — this time The M Machine have been graced with a Mat Zo remix of one of the Metropolis Pt. II b-sides, “When It’s Gone.”

With nary a post from either one leading up to today’s release, it came as a very pleasant surprise when The M Machine posted this new masterpiece on their SoundCloud. Mat Zo, as usual, manages to maintain the powerful themes of the original while bringing it to a new level with his creative and unique production style.

A more consistent beat keeps the remix moving, subtly contrasting the original, which focuses more on deep, cloudy textures. Certain Mat Zo stylings permeate The M Machine’s signature mellow vocals and rich background chord progression. As the track evolves, it becomes obvious that Mat Zo draws inspiration from The M Machine’s work, bearing thematic similarities to their recent remix of Manila Killa‘s single, “All That’s Left.”

In light of the new remix, fans no doubt will be earnestly hoping for an official collaboration between the two creative powerhouses. A free download of this piece is available here.
