One dead after being set on fire at Glastonbury

Tragedy struck Glastonbury Festival before it officially opened to the public June 20; a man in his 20s has died of critical burns he sustained on-site at the Somerset, England festival grounds.

An Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokesperson announced to the press that the authorities were called to Worthy Farm in the early evening with reports of a man on fire. The man was evacuated from the festival grounds by air ambulance Southmead Hospital in Bristol before being transferred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Unconfirmed reports attribute the event to spilled gasoline in the Green Fields section of the festival. Authorities reported difficulty in reaching the festival due to flooding and adverse weather conditions plaguing the area.

Glastonbury will open to public Wednesday, June 22.
