Cashmere Cat co-produced a new track for Francis and the Lights featuring Kanye West and Bon Iver

With five releases to their name — one a film score — New York City band Francis and the Lights have been working towards a breakthrough for some time now. Further, they’ve already scored a production credit for Drake back in 2010 and, anachronistically, sampled their newest track “Friends” on Chance The Rapper‘s Coloring Book mixtape. Now the group, led by the titular Francis Starlite, have released the track properly — with an accompanying video — featuring contributions from Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, Kanye West, and a co-production credit from Cashmere Cat.

Following swirling pads and twinkling, delayed guitars, the track transitions into a minimalist section, featuring only bass and vocals from Vernon (Kanye’s only apparent contribution is appearing in the video during this section, appearing pensive, grooving slightly, and wearing an awesome jacket). The pads and synths return as Francis and Vernon’s vocals intertwine in a lightly auto-tuned chorus, shortly after joined by increased percussion elements. The track crescendos to a busy ending, as Francis performs an imperfect dance in front of a white background in the video.
