Die Antwoord call out ‘Suicide Squad’ for ripping off their style
This summer’s anti-hero blockbuster Suicide Squad turned out to be a disheveled mess by most accounts. While the high-octane mega film was met by mostly unfavorable reviews, it appears to have ruffled the feathers of more than just film critics.
Die Antwoord‘s Yolandi Visser took to Instagram to fire shots at the film’s director, David Ayer, for personally ripping off their aesthetic, rattling off distinct details to support her claim. Pointing out bold similarities between The Joker’s costume design and Ninja’s unmistakable appearance, as well as Harley Quinn’s three-watch wrist, menacing black and white graffiti lining the walls, and other various details, Yolandi lambasts for Ayer “jockin’ our style.”
Yolandi’s tirade goes on, claiming Ayer spoke highly of the South African rave-rappers on set, and even approached the duo during the film’s creation to express that he was “down.” When he was allegedly confronted by Ninja over the matter sometime later, however, the director made no response to the group.
