Madeon remixes Blur’s classic ‘Song 2’ for FIFA 17

In honor of the forthcoming FIFA 17, EA Sports has tapped Madeon‘s rework of a franchise classic. The track? Blur’s heavy rock classic, “Song 2,” originally released in 1997 (Madeon was just 2 years old at the time).

Former Blur frontman (and current Gorillaz mastermind) Damon Albarn reportedly intended the original to be a parody of the grunge styles of the time. Ironically, the track became a monster hit and was featured in FIFA: Road to World Cup 98 only months after its release.

Though the latest game’s trailer barely stretches two minutes, it’s enough for a solid preview of the producer’s efforts. Madeon’s re-cut is a laudable update that layers the grinding vocal and punishing guitars of the original over a driving 4/4 beat. Of course, in the French prodigy’s signature style, the track is layered with some colorful electro synths.

Though Madeon’s rework of the track surfaced back in 2011, it has yet to receive an official release.

The game, and likely it’s soundtrack, will be released on September 16 via EA Sports.
