San Francisco’s Armory to host all-female music festival

Women are becoming better represented in dance culture now than ever before. From Glastonbury’s introduction of a female-only space for attendees at their festival, to the ubiquity of female acts like REZZ and Anna Lunoe on large festival bills, it is apparent that the dance music industry is beginning to transition away from being exclusively male-dominated.

San Francisco DJ Ms. Jackson has taken a further step toward empowering women in the scene by introducing a new festival with an entirely female lineup, Together Fest, to be held October 8 at San Francisco’s Armory club.

Jackson told SF Gate about her inspirations for launching Together Fest:

“We asked, ‘How do we highlight some of these artists that should be getting headlining spots at festivals but aren’t because of their gender?’” Jackson says. “We know that there is an incredible amount of female talent in electronic music, in hip-hop, in house music. There should be a mainstream music festival that has an all-female lineup.”

Together Fest will be headlined by Dani Deahl, and include supporting sets from Brazzabelle, Little Boots, Club Aerobics, and more. Tickets are available here.
