Weekend Rewind: OceanLab’s first single from 2001, ‘Clear Blue Water’

Paavo, Jono, and Tony birthed OceanLab not long after they did Above & Beyond, electing Justine Suissa as the defining vocalist on the project. The group’s first single, which sent them on an iconic path in the trance sphere, is already in its fifteenth year.

Released in 2001, “Clear Blue Water” embodied the quintessential elements of its genre during this era. Suissa’s soft vocals float over dramatic saw-synth melodies underlined by subtle acidic tones, conjuring a futuristic vibe over an otherwise emotive piece of music. While the original mix has since become a timeless classic, Ferry Corsten’s remix also earned high praise among the trance community.
