Watch Gallant perform a sensual cover of ‘Closer’ and assist Elton John on ‘Weight In Gold’

Few artists achieve what Gallant already during his still relatively brief career. His debut album Ology has been a critical and commercial success, and the crooner already has a stirring appearance at Coachella under his belt. Now the singer can add two more achievements to his CV: a sensual cover of Billboard 100’s top song and a duet with Sir Elton John of his own “Weight In Gold.”

Gallant opts for a heavy dose of falsetto for his take on The Chainsmokers‘ “Closer,” performed in studio at BBC Radio 1, transforming the pop heavyweight into a veritable R&B Jam. Also, while the original called on Halsey for a verse and harmonies to amp up the track’s energy towards the end, Gallant’s band matches his delivery towards the end, verging into a rock-tinged finale. Perhaps more impressive was the fact that Maryland-native was tapped by the Rocket Man himself, Elton John, to join him on stage to perform his breakout hit “Weight In Gold.” Sir Elton implores the crowd to give Gallant a warm welcome, which they readily do, as they each trade verses and crescendo into a powerful finale.
