A little over a week ago, crowds gathered for the 2016 iteration of Bestival — the 2015 winner of the UK Festival Award for “Best Major Festival” — which went down on the Isle of Wight, England. Headlining The Spaceport stage alongside Carl Cox and Diplo was veteran DJ Fatboy Slim, who Pete Tong describes as “the king of the festival circuit.”
His set, which Pete Tong released recently as a new BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, brought his usual high level of energy and extreme danceability. The 2-hour set was full of classics and new releases alike in true Fatboy Slim fashion, blending the two cleverly by mashing them up on-the-fly.
In the pre-show interview with Pete Tong, Fatboy Slim stated he wanted to play a set that was “a bit darker and dirtier” than normal. For almost the entire second hour, he departs from electro house for a jaunt of tech house and similar styles.
