Whether creating glitchy, downtempo or highly technical 4/4 pieces, Matt Lange’s mastery over music production remains at a nearly untouchable standard. His skill caught the attention of deadmau5 last year, who wasted no time in signing him onto mau5trap recordings for his debut LP, Ephemera. He’s since spent a fair portion of 2016 in his studio fusing eclectic samples, analog synths, and his own voice into finely-crafted outputs which exemplify his new sonic direction.

“Unsettled” sees Lange working in his comfort zone: relentlessly dark, brooding techno. Set at a faster tempo than his usual fare, growling synthesizers, tense breaks, and an abundance of low-frequency layers come together to communicate an overwhelming sense of angst. Sparse licks of his voice serve as the only melodic bits, tying together the track’s aura with contemplative lyrics sung in distant progressions.
