Keep your eye on Mura Masa. The UK-based beatmaker is currently on the rise, and if he wasn’t previously front and center on your radar, now he should be. The emerging producer is carving out his breakthrough, procuring some of the most unique electronic music currently in rotation. He’s supporting Flume on his world tour, he’s prepping his debut LP due to land next year via Anchor Point, and now he’s linked up with one of rap’s central tastemakers for a sultry flip on his own “Lovesick Fuck.” Enlisting A$AP Rocky on his latest piece, the pair twist the tune into a new version of their own called “Love$ick.”
“Love$ick,” recorded at London’s famous Abbey Road studio, blends smooth R&B elements into an uptempo future-bass beat. Rocky’s rolling rhyme schemes are broken up between a pitched-up vocal hooks as he spits about his love life over Masa’s grooving, punchy drum arrangement. The added $, and with it, Rocky’s unmistakable bravado, up the ante on the original tune, and on the other end emerges one of the most enticing hip-hop/dance hybrids of the year.
