President Obama to host his own music festival on the White House lawn

Presidents who are entering the final months of their second term are often called “lame ducks” due to their impending removal from power coupled with the focus of rest of the nation on the upcoming election of their replacement. President Obama, however, is seeking to remove any association of his name with “lame” by announcing that the White House will play host to the first ever South By South Lawn festival (SXSL).

As its name suggests, the festival will be put on in concert with SXSW, whom President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama have a previous relationship with. Similarly, SXSL will feature a combination of music, art installations, and film presentations, with a nomination process in place for the spots available. No lineup is yet available, though the festival promises to feature “well-known and emerging artists who are using their music to inspire audiences.”

SXSL will be held October 3 on the White House’s South Lawn.
