deadmau5’s ‘Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff’ just went platinum

Nearly eight years after its original release — and coincidentally, on Halloween of all days — deadmau5‘s iconic “Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff” has officially gone platinum. The 2009 single, which features the vocals of Pendulum and Knife Party‘s Rob Swire, is arguably one of the most recognizable electronic dance songs of the past decade.

As such, it may come as a surprise to many fans that it took this long for the track to break the 1,000,000 copies-sold marker. However, considering that the past decade has also seen a huge decrease in the physical consumption of music — due to the rise of streaming and the continued popularity of digital piracy — the fact that a track that’s almost a decade old is still selling copies at a significant rate is an achievement in and of itself.

Ultimately, the continued popularity of deadmau5’s classic compositions speaks to his genius as a producer and tastemaker. See what deadmau5 had to say about the accreditaiton and listen to the original “Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff” below:

Well, cool. Ghosts n stuff went platinum today. Hahaha. Seems fitting ;)
