Launchpad: Two weekend playlists for commercial connoisseurs & techno tastemakers

The Launchpad is a biweekly series showcasing hot new music hand selected by our staff. The tracks in these curated playlists come from both underground and mainstream artists that we love. If you’d like to see your music featured in the Launchpad, you can submit it for consideration here.

Get ready for a heavy dose of great new music to set your weekend off right. This week’s double edition of Launchpad features the perfect list for two types of weekend warrior: the EDM die hard and the underground fiend.

For the former, our EDM selection is perfect for early fall barbecues or extensive pre-gaming efforts. Fans of Zedd, Cash Cash, Calvin Harris, or Swedish House Mafia, take note.  Though this genre of electronic music is debatably one of the most misunderstood and mislabeled, its champions remain loyal to the clear, uplifting vocals and characteristically epic drops. Tracks on this list hit on every corner of the genre, from driving big room jams to sultry “Clarity”-esque ballads and tropical house infused crowd pleasers.

Highlights: While heavy hitters like Sex Panther and Landis make deserving appearances, this list includes some incredibly big sounds from lesser known producers. Tracks like Savi’s “Breathe It In” and Captain Party’s “hijacked” Chainsmokers bootleg tap into the genre’s feel good vibes.

The multitalented J Sutta also makes an appearance with her latest release “Distortion,” a super clean electro pop track as does Drunk Girl with “Don’t Stop The Party.” The latter track features an incredible vocal turn from Deanna and a solid future bass drop that demands repeat plays.

Closing out this high energy mix is a hilarious video collaboration from Papa Ya and video jokers Bro Con Chill. Together the two have created the ultimate “intro credits” supercut pulled from classic 80s and 90s television classics.

Up next: a weekend playlist for the techno tastemaker. This list is perfect for the Uber ride to the warehouse party or a lights off apartment bacchanalia. Fans of Claude Von Stroke, Hot Since 82, or Maceo Plex will enjoy this mix which features an eclectic mix of underground sounds.

Highlights: Starting out the list is Harvey Wallbanger & Giddy’s “Roulé”, released earlier this month via underground tastemakers Brobot Records. The track features classic 909 instrumentation and an inscrutably cool sound.  Spades’ “Another Sunday” also makes the cut. This sultry house track is available for free download on the artists SoundCloud page.

Rounding out the list is the latest in Swigs’ excellent Shuffle Club Mixtape series. This edition features nearly thirty minutes of subterranean tech house grooves.
