Listen to a rare Daft Punk live set from 1997

A rare live set from Daft Punk has recently resurfaced, dating all the way back to 1997. The set is taken from Rex Club in Paris, and showcases a young Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter fresh off the release of their debut album Homework on Virgin. As such, the set is pervaded by classic staples from the French pair such as “Da Funk,” “Rollin’ and Scratchin,” “Around the World” and more.

The story behind the recording is almost as interesting as the set itself. Supposedly, the mix was recorded by Daft Punk themselves, directly through the mixer (hence the lack of crowd noise), and then leaked by one of the club’s employees, who was later fired for doing so. As such, the quality of the audio is much better than you’d expect from a 1997 club set.
