The Russ Liquid Test – Honesty (Original Mix)

The Russ Liquid Test, a New Orleans-style jazz troupe helmed by Russell Scott and Andrew Block, is perhaps the most traditionally-rooted new addition to GRiZ‘s All Good Records yet. The live performance project came to life after Russell, who has long been inspired by jazz bands, reflected on the genre’s influence in his compositions and performances. The artist enlisted the help of jazz purist Block to assemble Russ Liquid’s musicians, who create a unique fusion of classically-grounded jazz infused with modern funk and hip-hop elements.

In advance of the release of the group’s forthcoming 1984 EP release on All Good Records, they’ve released their debut single “Honesty,” a slow-burning jam featuring vocals from Chicago-based artist Emily Nichols. A robust brass section featuring horns and saxophones is counter-balanced by the rhythm section led by Alvin Ford, Jr. of New Orleans modern funk group The Grid.
