Stampede causes numerous fatalities at Angolan music festival
Numerous reports are indicating that a stampede at the Afro-Music Channel festival in Benguela, Angola has resulted in at least eight fatalities. Journalist Nelson Sul reported that the stampede was incited at the end of the concert when police arrived and began searching the crowd for criminals. The doors were locked and panic quickly spread throughout the attendees.
Sul went on to say that the tickets sold for the event vastly exceeded the 8,000 person capacity at the stadium where the festival was held. Authorities have yet to comment on Sul’s claims of overselling tickets.
Sul also indicated that the body count may rise as more information is gathered, saying, “There are more bodies in morgues in the city.”
