Few artists have seen as meteoric a rise as 19-year-old Slushii has within the past year. The producer’s signature confectionary twist on bass music, maintaining the sound’s rollicking energy while making it palatable to a wide swath of fans, has proven to be a powerful force in the world of electronic music. On his latest track “Morphine,” however, Slushii vastly switches up his style for an intriguingly mellow feel.
The track is gentle throughout, featuring slowly unfurling synths, longing vocals, and heavily processed drums that amp up the dreamy atmosphere. Sliding guitar lines do most of the melodic heavy lifting, floating in vast reverb while the track’s foundation meanders underneath.
