Tupac, Journey, and Pearl Jam will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017

In the spring of 2017, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will welcome a new class of inductees. Tupac Shakur, Journey, and Joan Baez are among the next wave of stars to be enshrined in rock n’ roll’s historical canon, along with Electric Light Orchestra, Pearl Jam, and Yes.

Hot off the heels of announcing a new Chic record coming in 2017, Nile Rodgers will also be honored at next year’s event, as the recipient of the 2017 Award for Musical Excellence.

This year, fans were able to participate in the induction voting process, adding to the 800+ ballots submitted by industry professionals, music historians, and artists. 2017 also marks the first year that the ceremony will highlight only specific members and lineups of each group. As such, Journey’s classic Steve Perry lineup will be eligible, and of the multiple iterations of Electric Light Orchestra, founding members Jeff Lynne, Roy Wood, Bev Bevan and Richard Tandy will be eligible for induction as well. Of Pearl Jam’s five drummers, Matt Cameron and David Krusen make the cut for eligibility this year.

Notable talents that will have to wait another year for their potential induction ceremonies are Kraftwerk, Janet Jackson, and Depeche Mode. The 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony will take place on April 7 at Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn. The event will also be broadcast on HBO in the spring.
