Wolfgang Gartner – Devotion (Original Mix)

With his sophomore album, 10 Ways To Steal Home Plate, officially in the bag along with a few other singles and a two-track EP from his new R&B side project Openeyes, veteran DJ and producer Wolfgang Gartner has had a productive year to say the least. Taken as a whole, 2016 has seen Gartner return to his stylistic roots from the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Many of the tracks on his new album have a distinctly retro sound, notably the funky disco house collaboration “HURRICANE SLURRICANE” which features Dam Funk and E-40, as well as his recent single “Baby Be Real,” released in November. He continues his journey into the sound of the past with his latest single, “Devotion,” out this week on Spinnin’ Records.

“Devotion,” features an R&B vocal topline alongside classic house elements and more modern dance tropes. The main bass recalls the future house trend of the last few years, though the groove, vocals and subtle subsidiary synth-work all speak to Gartner’s decades-long career.
