Electronic music’s extension into various other genres has grown substantially as it becomes more widely popular. Hip-hop is one major arena that has experienced a deep bond with various bass-leaning electronic sub-genres, with artists such as Clams Casino and Shlohmo earning followings that rival those of the artists for which they produce.

These ties will be further exemplified as the new year sets into place with the 2017 Festival Weekend edition of G-Unit Saturdays on Shade 45. Its host, DJ Whoo Kid, will be bringing major acts such as Diplo, Skrillex, and Steve Aoki to the show on Saturday, January 7 to “hang and mix hip-hop/trap” for six hours in the afternoon. Given Diplo’s expertise in producing for some of the biggest superstars in the industry and Skrillex’s penchant for selecting forward-thinking and prodigious young talent for his OWSLA label, there ought to be some interesting thoughts and tunes shared for the event.

Meanwhile, Steve Aoki’s persona truly embodies the “festival” idea, tying together the group of EDM crossover ambassadors compiled for the event. Listeners can tune in from noon-6pm EST to stream the action as it unfolds.
