After conquering the mainstream in 2016, The Chainsmokers are looking to add to their growing list of accolades. After teasing the track for weeks on social media, “Paris” has received an official release. It was premiered by the duo at their Los Angeles Convention Center show back on December 30. The instrument heavy track is the first official release to follow the quadruple platinum summer jam “Closer”.
The track opens with the duo’s vocalist Drew Taggart reminiscing about a bittersweet trip to Paris over a subtle piano melody and a simple kick, but quickly builds up into a guitar heavy refrain. Collaborator Louane delivers a wistful turn, harmonizing with Taggert for the latter half of the song. The songs remixable outro features a Chvrches-esque, explosion of glittery synthpop.
Though “Paris” is just as catchy as their recent singles, its chorus is a subtler effort, which changes throughout the melody. Structurally, it’s a more mature songwriting effort from the duo and seems to indicate their rise to pop EDM dominance may never end.
