Berghain confirms opening of new floor, Säule

Notorious for its strict and capricious entry policies, coveted Berlin nightclub Berghain has confirmed the opening of a third dance floor named Säule, meaning “pillar” in German. The new level is rumored to be located underneath the ground-floor of the clubbing complex, adding to the Berghain and Panorama Bar spaces, and will feature a program of experimental house and techno acts. Set to open on March 23, Alessandro Adriani, Deena Abdelwahed and Natalia Escobar will kick off the section’s first night, followed by sets from Dis Fig, Illum Sphere and Laura Clock on March 24.

While the iconic institution has been operating for well over a decade, Berghain received a surge of press within the past year, ranging from the German capital officially recognizing the venue as “high culture” and prompting public figures like Conan O’Brien to take a satirical stab at entering the building. The newest addition will surely bring an eager and even larger stream of electronic music fans from near and far, all with the similar hopes of crossing the threshold and experiencing Berlin’s legendary music structure.
