Their names even mash up pretty well: “Flumepac.”

Flume beats wrapped around Tupac bars may sound like a strange pairing, and certainly requires a degree of finesse to pull off properly. Australian producer Jaymee Franchina nails the fine line, bringing an impressive balance of harmony to the old school rhymes of West Coast rap hero Tupac and the new school vibe of electronic forward-thinker Flume on a new mashup album he’s crafted entitled B.I.G. Flume Part 2Pac. Surprisingly enough, Flume compositions cropped from last year’s Skin align quite well with a number of Tupac classics that span his catalog of now-canonized releases from hip-hop’s golden era in the early 90’s.

Crossing Tupac essentials like “Thugs Mansion,” “Changes,” “I Ain’t Mad At Cha” with off-kilter electronic specimens from Flume like “Tiny Cities,” “Never Be Like You” and “Smoke and Retribution,” the mashup album ropes in complementary elements from both artists into one satisfying blend of hip-hop highlights and new-wave electronic appeal.
