Depeche Mode have begun their triumphant return to music after a four-year hiatus in the lead up to their forthcoming album, Spirit. They decided to preview what we might expect for their album with a politically-charged “Where’s The Revolution,” the timing of which seems uncanny.

The song’s music video is as stark its the lyrics . Filmed in black and white, drone-like, uniformed dancers move in unison across a barren cityscape as Depeche Mode preside over them on a pedestal, singing about sheep-like masses who fail to think or speak for themselves.

Given the current geopolitical climate, it seems as though “Where’s The Revolution” can be perceived message to people across the world to not be complacent regarding their most dearly-held convictions. “Where’s The Revolution” and its music video also stir excitement as to what the legendary band has in store for their followers come March 17, when Spirit will be released.
