Will.i.am remixes Axwell ^ Ingrosso’s ‘I Love You,’ except no he didn’t

The remix EP for Axwell ^ Ingrosso‘s recent single “I Love You,” featuring hip-hop vocals from Kid Ink, has arrived and it’s full of hot takes on the breakout track. The most surprising inclusion comes from former Black Eyed Pea, will.i.am. As it turns out, the pop star’s attribution on the album is due to a Spotify error that has mistakenly tagged the wrong artist. The “William” in question is actually Australian producer William Crocombe whose moniker William. is two craftily placed punctuation marks away from super stardom.

While the original is a slow and deep house track, the Aussie producer’s lofty remix has a broken beat, warm synths, and panning percussion. The track taps into the layered textures worn best by producers like Mura Masa and features a nuanced mix and impeccable production. The remix EP also features a future bass-y cut from  Machinedrum and a big room mashup from David Puentez, but the young producers take is a textured and interesting narrative that deserves a fair listen.

Update: This article has been updated to reflect Spotify’s error.
