WORLD PREMIERE: David Guetta’s ‘Light My Body Up’ with Nicki Minaj & Lil Wayne gets remixed by Cedric Gervais

Hit-making professional David Guetta ditched his usual 4/4 commercial house getup in favor of bassier sounds currently taking over the popular music sphere with his bold new single, “Light My Body Up.” He demonstrated his fine ear for creating universally-appealing sounds regardless of genre once more, selecting his “Hey Mama” collaborator Nicki Minaj along with her former mentor and colleague Lil Wayne to assist in this transition to a new style. What resulted was an indisputable radio hit – simple, yet catchy with a memorable hook.

When it came down to finding an artist to re-work the original into an even more dance-worthy affair, Guetta knew “Light My Body Up” would be in safe hands with Miami-based producer Cedric Gervais, who stepped up to the challenge with a version not terribly far off from the original, yet entirely his own. Gervais opted to maintain the original’s deeper aesthetic, foraying a bit into future bass territory with gritty, yet hollow synthesizers accompanying powerful drops and enhanced percussion. His more dynamic rendition is meant for the main stage, and will likely be rinsed by fellow greats throughout the festival season.

“Light My Body Up” marks the second time Guetta and Gervais have worked together in a five month span of time. Their first collaboration together came in the form of the funk-influenced “Would I Lie To You,” their contemporary take on a 1992 classic.
