Chazwick Bundick is a man that, under one name or another, has been taking the underground by storm for years. From the dancey house vibes of his side project Les Sins to the stoned jazz-psychedelia of Chaz Bundick Meets The Mattson 2, Bundick always seems to have his plate full. Today, he has released a new single under his most popular alias, Toro y Moi.
With the release of this new track, titled “You and I,” it seems that Toro y Moi is an everchanging project. Just as 2015’s What For departed from the chillwave sound that he helped pioneer in the early 2010s, the singles Bundick has released for this new project indicate a change in direction from the jazz, rock, and psychedelic influences that were found in his most recent Toro y Moi album and 2016’s Live from Trona, which featured live band reworks of many of his classic tunes.
“You and I,” conversely, is an 80s-influenced slow jam featuring airy synths and minimal percussion, which fits the light and hollow vibe of the song. The song is the third single to be released ahead of the new album, Boo Boo, which is due out July 7 on Carpark Records.
