Nicky Romero releases monumental ‘5 Years Of Protocol’ EP with remixes from John Dahlback, Stadiumx, and more

Nicky Romero and the Protocol Recordings team are celebrating their fifth birthday with an epic series of events and brand new music releases. There’s no doubt that Nicky Romero‘s Protocol Recordings crew know how to bring the heat, and they’re going all out for the label’s 5th birthday this year. The highlight of their master plan comes in the form of five major new tracks on an enticing EP package.

From it’s opener—Stadiumx’s remix of “Like Home”—5 Years of Protocol kicks off with a bouncy, energetic number featuring oscillating synths contrasted by an intriguing bass line full of texture. Stadiumx’s style brings forth an unmatched exuberance just in time for the height of summer.

“We are very proud to be part of the Protocol family of course, it was an honor to remix ‘Like Home’ for the 5-years anniversary compilation and to perform for our own Hungarian crowd at Balaton Sound,” Stadiumx told Dancing Astronaut. “To perform for 12.000 people and to play the Protocol classics as well gave us goosebumps! Our breakthrough with ‘Howl At The Moon’ (platinum record) meant a lot for us, thank you Protocol team and Nicky.”

The next track on the EP, “Symphonica” flaunts Tony Romera‘s take on the original by adding his distinct trap infused melodic house style, including hitting heavy progressions in the drop while evoking sentiments of euphoria from listeners. The remix is quite captivating for its rare blend of trap with provocative chords. Romera brings his style to the table with creativity and ingenuity with his remix, giving listeners a reminder of the artistry the French producer possesses.

Nicky Romero also makes an appearance on the EP with his take on “Howl At The Moon,” and sheds some light on his achievements thus far.

It’s amazing we are already on our 5th anniversary and I am really proud of what we have achieved so far,” Romero told Dancing Astronaut. “We have a dedicated team, a strong brand, a great roster and a loyal fanbase. I think our strength lies in this and that we aim to release the highest quality dance music available. Thanks everyone for the massive support these past 5 years. Much appreciated.”

Romero’s Remix features the classic sound that has won over the hearts of fans from all over the world. His electro house style comes out strong in “Howl At the Moon,” showcasing an arrangement of layers placed effortlessly, creating a perfectly balanced and fascinating piece as the intense buildup and staggering drop build an aura of freshness surrounding the track.

Next, Sam Void takes on “Sandcastles,” an irresistible and danceable track with riffs of pounding deep bass in the drop contrasted with smooth melodic bridges. The remix is simply chic, showing off a style that would be perfect for posh nightclubs as well as exclusive warehouses.

For their closer, the Protocol team has tapped legendary producer and DJ, John Dahlback to throw down his rendition of “Crossroads.” The producer gives the original a complete makeover with a wide array of different textured vibrant synth progressions along with a deep, dynamic bass line. The remix is quite powerful, and will undoubtably get airtime at large festivals and intimate venues alike. John Dahlback brings forth a dark, yet exhilarating sound, flexing his production skills that has made him so sensational.

In all, it’s a monumental effort dedicated to an iconic, taste making label whose legacy continues to develop and grow.
