Watch Charli XCX and Halsey cover Spice Girls at Lolla

Charli XCX brought the ’90s back with a surprise cover of the Spice Girls’ smash hit, “Wannabe,” at Lollapalooza this past weekend. To add to the girl power, she brought out forthcoming tour mate Halsey to perform with her. The crowd went crazy for the 1996 cover, especially when Halsey ran out on stage to join Charli XCX. Halsey wasn’t otherwise scheduled to perform at the Chicago festival.

Though both the performers and the crowd clearly had a great time performing the girl power anthem, the backing track and use of autotune held the cover back from what it could’ve been. We know both of these ladies have killer pipes — why cover ’em up?
