Armin van Buuren throws back the clock with ‘A State Of Trance Classics, Vol. 12’

Armin van Buuren has recently began embracing styles outside his usual sonic arena, however, the veteran can still show off why he once held the revered title of “The King Of Trance.”

Through A State Of Trance, his highly-successful and brand radio show which has never dimmed from the international spotlight, he digs through his archives each year to unearth some of the most well-crafted and loved classics of old. Naturally, given that his comeup took place during what many label as the genre’s “Golden Age,” he proves his impeccable taste once more through the 12th iteration ASOT Trance Classics.

This edition is quite the sentimental one, featuring a bevy of tracks that tug at the heartstrings. It opens with Robert Miles’ “Children” — a fitting tribute to the fallen artist who influenced the genre so deeply.

Van Buuren also made sure to include Jorn van Deynhoven’s remix to “RAMsterdam,” which notably regained its spark as of July 2017 thanks to a viral video of him tearing up as its uplifting bittersweet melody coursed through the speakers at Untold Festival. “Love Theme Dusk (Mike’s Broken Record Mix),” which features a hauntingly memorable piano hook, was also featured. Finally, he chose a couple newer classics to add to the fray as well, one of which is “Sun & Moon” by Above & Beyond.

Prepare to be taken on a trip down memory lane as the early noughties are explored in heavy detail through the compilation below.
